Note:

Elderly passengers require more careful preparation when flying to ensure health and comfort. Below is a summary of the most important notes:

1. Before the flight

  • Health check: It is advisable to have a general medical check-up before flying, especially for cardiovascular, blood pressure, or respiratory conditions.
  • Personal medication: Always carry prescription medication in your carry-on baggage. Keep the medicine in its original labeled packaging and bring the doctor's prescription with you (in case security checks or refills are needed).
  • Seat selection: Prefer an aisle seat for easier movement to the restroom or for light stretching, and choose a seat near the front of the aircraft for quicker disembarkation.
  • Assistance services: Do not hesitate to book wheelchair or airport assistance in advance if your health is weak or mobility is difficult.

2. During the flight

  • Move while seated: To reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), rotate your ankles, stretch your legs, or walk gently down the aisle every hour.
  • Stay hydrated: Cabin air is very dry. Drink plenty of water and limit tea, coffee, and alcohol, as they can dehydrate you and increase bathroom trips.
  • Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable, sweat-absorbing clothing and bring a light jacket or scarf, as the temperature on board is often low.

3. Safety and psychological considerations

  • Notify the crew: If you feel tired, short of breath, or notice any unusual symptoms, press the call button immediately.
  • Identification documents: Always carry your health insurance card and emergency contact information in your pocket or carry-on baggage.
  • Food and drink: Have a light meal before flying and avoid foods that may cause bloating or indigestion.
